Key policies
We are moving closer to an endemic phase. But as we’ve noted all along, COVID will be around for a long time before we can be less aware of it than the flu.
Generally, at our events masks are optional unless required by the site or a governmental agency.
As a result, we suggest the following, acknowledging that final decisions are between a patient and his doctor, and that we do not know anyone’s specific circumstances.
Be fully vaccinated. Initially, the vaccine was important to stop the spread of COVID, and it may still help with that. But as the virus has mutated, the vaccines offer somewhat less protection against spread, although they still generally offer significant protection against severe illness.
At some point, additionally customized vaccines may be offered that will better prevent spread or sickness from major variants. Consider those.
Always be prepared. Carry an N95 or KN95 mask with you. You never know when a situation may become crowded, raising your risk.
Due to the extra expense of extra space, providing extra space for all events isn’t possible without (significantly) raising entry fees - a sort of “safety premium.” Further, if entrees significantly increase at the last moment, it may be impossible to even get additional space. So it is possible that an event could end up more crowded than we prefer. Hence our admonition to be prepared and have an N95 or KN95 with you.
How COVID-19 Impacts Caveman Chess Camps, Tournaments and Other In-Person Events
Caveman Chess, LLC looks to the government and our host sites in making any decisions about holding our chess events. Our sites include Elmhurst University, Maine South High School, Crowne Plaza Hotel Chicago Northbrook, SpringHill Suites Chicago O'Hare and others.
If WE cancel an event, we will make full refunds and may offer the choice of a credit with a bonus amount. If we do not cancel, but you withdraw, our normal withdrawal policy applies (see Terms and Conditions.)
